The uncertainty stems from work. My job involves winding up the end of the school year. But the New Zealand term structure is a fluid one, there are a range of dates schools can start and finish between. A school chooses a date determined on a formula that takes into consideration, the number of half days the school has been open for instruction during the year, it deducts half days for teacher interviews and teacher only days etc. once this formula is applied it's this that determines the end date.
So I've been waiting for my boss to give me the end date. My role requires me to come into school after the year has finished, and play a big part in the winding up the school year from an administrative perspective; ensuring all the i's have been dotted and the t's have been crossed. I need to have all this done before I can board that plane to Nairobi. Today the boss and I had that chat, and with a date fixed, that coupled with some fantastic news I received yesterday I was confident enough to go ahead and book my flight.
