Gastronomical Acclimatization

So there we go, another year older.... It took me a moment on waking this morning to remember it was my being born day... I'm not sure if that's because it really doesn't mean that much to me, or just a sign of early onset Alzheimer's.  Age has never been a concept that frightens me, but damn those wrinkles and the reflection every morning are certainly starting to give me a real scare.
NB: When you work in a school, you obviously have to watch your P's n Q's, so a colleague and I have a code, when things are worthy of a very loud WTF, we can often be heard quietly mumbling "hmm that's interesting"
I digress...tonight my girls are cooking me dinner, a birthday treat I'm told, neither of them are renowned for their domesticity so it will be an interesting experience I'm sure, and maybe once or twice I might just have to pull out a "hmmmm that's interesting."   That's not nice, I'm being unfair, if the truth be told I'm really looking forward to my dinner, I'm excited that they have shopped for the ingredients and are making it all from scratch for me...

Tonights dinner is the young adult equivalent of all those birthday breakfasts they have made me in the past.  It's with great fondness I remember waking up on birthdays and mothers day, to a large mug of coffee made with water from the hot tap, a chopped up banana (skin on or course) and a very generous spread of vegemite on whatever biscuit they could reach in the pantry, I could often be heard exclaiming "hmmmm that's interesting"

I declined a very generous dinner invitation to a traditional Japanese restaurant this evening, and whilst there is no denying if I had dined out, I would have been in a quandary between the beef tataki or the seared tuna.... No such dilemma with my own two Master Chef's in the kitchen tonight, though I'm sure I will be equally impressed.

Asante girls

10:09 My previous comments, were totally unfair of me, I had the loveliest birthday dinner any mum could ask for, enormous delicious pizzas made by Teale (cheese grated by Matt) and the richest Caramel Cake from Briar... thanks guys you've kicked started the next year off my life in great style... xxx.
