Woah, it's been a long one, are you sure Monday wasn't about a month ago? A week of;
Olympic gold medals , Erupting Volcanoes
The world oldest FlashMob delighted Auckland and all topped off with the not so silent torture of all tortures, the school disco. But how can I not stay and help?
All week they have been eagerly anticipating this massive event, counting down the days, asking who's coming, and who's not...Their little faces so excited at the thought of a 5:00 - 7:00 Beiber/Beyonce/Jay Z fest. Once inside the venue (read: school hall) the twinkling lights, the massive rainbow canopy that some of our clever staff magically were able to string from the ceiling, there are 300+ little sweaty bodies all dressed to impress; It's from the sublime to the ridiculous pink frilly dresses, black n white suite with a fedora, the long black leather coat more fitting off a cast member from the Matrix, some sequined blue wings, and then there are those more tarted up than what you would see in any club in the city on a Friday night, "dancing," squealing, running (what's with the running around and around like a caged hamster?) but deep down they still are all just kids, having a great time, jumping for glowsticks, eating as many Kbars as possible in their allotted two hours of craziness, even the tarted up ones.. (I still haven't gotten my head around the concept of dressing a 6 year old in heels, short skirts with chains, and makeup - WTF....old fashioned? probably, care that I am? Not in the slightest)
On a totally different note, the "it's all about me" one. There were some great results, and feedback throughout the week. I shared my plans and a link to my blog with a couple of different people, one being the Principal of another local school, although I hardly know him, we were talking on a professional note and told me he had heard of my plans via a colleague of his, he was so encouraging and supportive, it was lovely, it always amazes me that the encouragement I get even from a person I hardly know really makes a big difference. Some fabulous donations to the Silent Auction too, a stunning, black, mens Invicta watch valued at over US$200 from a donor who asked to remain anonymous, a meal for two at the always fun Caluzzi Bar & Cabaret, some vouchers to the Parakai Hotsprings along with the preparation of a Will by Jenny Gill at Boyle Mathieson Lawyers. (I think I will be giving Jenny a call to update mine before December 20th) All topped off with the confirmation by my MC that he will be available to run the evening, keep it flowing smoothly and to encourage all bidders to help "Get Jacqui to Kenya"
I'm off this morning to have coffee with the elderly gentleman I met at the start of the week, the Hungarian teacher who brought a smile to my face with his delightful stories.....
But before I go must just add.... finally I slept till the sun came up, the dreams were trippy but 9 hours uninterrupted simply unheard of!!!!!
(I've not quite worked out the significance of the acid like dreams - why I had just moved into a house in England, with all the old owners furniture and very large underwear still in it, whilst rushing around getting ready to start a new job, and trying to walk a massive dog called Louie in a river, is beyond me)
But sleep I did and I'm not complaining...
