Confidence

I Just Wish I Was as Confident as the Quotes I post........

I'm always the person that smiles and acts like they don't have a care in the world, the person everybody turns to and shares their troubles, the one who doesn't say when they are upset, the one who doesn't hold a grudge or stamp their feet and make a fuss.  But you know what?, sometimes I want to make a fuss, I want to stamp my feet and pout my lip, I just wish I had the self confidence to do so, the self confidence everybody assumes I have.

My cheerleader sometimes calls my lack of confidence self deprecation, I hate my lack of confidence and I'm working bloody hard to change it, but the Cheerleaders voice is quite right now, there are bigger issues than Kenya afoot.  But not to worry, I'm a big girl and if there is one thing I've learnt being an only child, don't be too reliant on others, because at the end of the day you're responsible for your own success or failure.

A productive day makes me buzz and suddenly I'm full of confidence, confident that I will organise the Silent Auction, confident I will sell the 100 tickets, confident I will have enough items to auction, confident I will raise $7,000 and that getting to Kenya will happen.  Yesterday was one of those days, an email from Jamie Fitzgerald, a designer outfit pledged, jewellery collected, but all only able to be shared via abs-olutely,  no shaking of pompoms, no "yay Jacq you're going to do this" ... such is life.

It was nice to receive an email from my dad, he was asking advice on fundraising can you believe, I'm not sure I'm the person to be giving such advice just yet.... but it felt good, as I'm not sure my parents are totally comfortable with my decision to travel to Kenya alone.  My dad volunteers for the New Zealand Coastguard, an organisation always in need of more funding, so I shared a little of what I'm doing to raise my funds, it felt nice being able to pass on a few tips, but really all I did was echo what I've been told time and again since this began "Action create Activity" the person who told me that really knows their stuff.

Asante
Jacq

Let's Do this Thing......

This came today....... it made me cry.

Hi Jacquie, thanks for your email.  I have had email conversations with Rita, our school and orphanage project manager and Emily, our educaton co-ordinator.  They are very keen for you to come to the orphanage over the Dec/Jan break.  They have suggested you might like to think about being involved in running a programme to keep the children occupied during their holidays. You would not be alone in making this happen and they would support you fully.  We have a good supply of arts and crafts materials, sports gear and a cd player and discs.  The orphanage has solar power and the highlight of the last month has been the sinking of a bore hole so they now have plenty of water. There are 80 children at the orphanage - 40 have been there for a year and the other 40 arrived a few months ago.
The other quite exciting development is that we are in the process of completing an extension to the dining/kitchen hall which includes an upstairs with a couple of rooms for volunteers.  You could be our first guest there. Let me know if you think this is a project you would like to be involved in and we can continue the conversation with Nakuru staff about how it could work.
will keep in touch
Regards
Raewyn Phipps
So They Can - Volunteer manager.

I'm now officially terrified. Not of going to Nakuru, far from it, that excites me beyond my wildest dreams.  Terrified of letting down not only all these people in New Zealand and around the world who are supporting me, but the team at the school and orphanage in Nakuru and the 80 children who live there.

What if I can't raise $7,000? My fingers are screaming out to answer this email immediately saying "Yes! Yes! Yes! I'm coming, I will be there as soon as I finish work at Pomaria for 2012" but my brain is saying "Hold on, can you really do this"

I hate self doubt, and I have it in spades..........

Jacq

ps
And still no word from the person I was hoping to get as my guest speaker, I'm going to have to start throwing out the hooks again.  I was contemplating ringing the radio station I listen to, and asking the woman who hosts their breakfast show. Does anybody know a person who could be a guest speaker for me?
